Joining Family Kind Helene Bernstein

As New York begins to reopen, I’m excited to announce that I have joined the Board of Directors of FamilyKind. Since joining FamilyKind over a decade ago as a founding member, I’ve been proud of the organization’s progress and growth. From working with Executive Director Lesley Friedland to creating the parent coordination and mediation panels, to the development of FamilyKind’s NextGen Board of young professionals, I remain committed to FamilyKind’s mission of helping the families of the greater New York City metropolitan area.

While FamilyKind has switched to Zoom during the pandemic, the organization has continued to flourish. From providing services on a sliding fee scale, to the continued success of our parent education, mediation, and communications skills programs, and divorce recovery programs, I am confident that FamilyKind will continue to help families resolve their differences and reduce the need for litigation.

As a new board member, I believe it is incredibly important that FamilyKind continues to offer affordable and accessible services to all kinds of families. As a mediator and an attorney, I am aware that litigation is rarely quick and even less frequently cheap. Mediation and the skills classes taught by FamilyKind are not only more cost effective, but can reduce the anxiety that the separation process saddles many children with.
